Soap Base & Oils
- 1.5 cups (or 12 cubes) Goat’s Milk Soap Base
- 2 teaspoons Sweet Almond Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
- 20 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
- 16 drops Tangerine Essential Oil
- 16 drops Orange Essential Oil
- 10 drops Peach or Orange Soap Colorant (optional)
Exfoliants
- Prepare Soap Base: Cut the goat’s milk soap base into 1″ squares if not pre-scored, selecting 12 cubes that equal 1.5 cups. This ensures even melting and easier measuring.
- Melt Soap Base: Place about 8 cubes into a large heat-safe glass measuring cup. Microwave in 30-second increments for a total of 90 seconds, stirring frequently to avoid lumps and to promote even melting.
- Add Remaining Soap and Oil: If needed, add remaining cubes to reach 1.5 cups of liquid soap. Stir in 2 teaspoons sweet almond oil thoroughly. Microwave an additional 30-45 seconds, stirring until smooth.
- Mix in Fragrance: Add 1 tablespoon vanilla extract and then each essential oil drop by drop—grapefruit, tangerine, and orange—stirring after each to distribute evenly without lumps.
- Ensure Smooth Liquefied Soap: Check for thick or lumpy spots. Scrape sides and bottom of the cup. If thickened, microwave an additional 20-30 seconds and stir until fully melted and smooth.
- Add Sugar for Exfoliation: Slowly add 1.5 cups white sugar in half-cup increments. Stir well between additions until the mixture is consistent and lump-free. Microwave briefly if lumps persist, then scrape and stir thoroughly.
- Add Colorant: If using, stir 10 drops of peach or orange soap colorant into the sugar scrub mixture until uniformly colored.
- Prepare Molds: Place your soap mold on a stable, movable surface such as a baking sheet to avoid spills during pouring.
- Pour into Molds: Fill molds approximately ¾ full with the mixture to ensure uniform bars. Fill all six molds, then top off each to the brim for even sizing.
- Use Remaining Mixture: Microwave any thickened leftover mixture for 10-15 seconds, scrape and pour over filled molds to utilize all the scrub effectively.
- Cool and Unmold: Allow scrub bars to cool undisturbed at room temperature for several hours until firm and consistent throughout. Carefully peel back molds and remove bars.
- Final Drying: Let bars sit uncovered for a few more minutes to ensure moisture evaporates before storing or using.
- Use: Use the sugar scrub bars in the shower or by the sink to exfoliate and soften skin with a creamy, citrus scent.
Notes
- Cut soap base carefully to achieve uniform cubes for even melting.
- Microwave in short bursts and stir frequently to prevent overheating and lumps.
- Essential oils are potent; add drops slowly and evenly to preserve fragrance balance.
- Colorant is optional but enhances the creamsicle appearance of the bars.
- Allow bars to cool completely and dry slightly before using to prevent stickiness.
- Store bars in a dry, cool place between uses to extend shelf life.
