Pasta
- 2 cups egg noodles (uncooked)
Beef Mixture
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian spices
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef stock
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Cook Noodles: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Cook Beef and Onion: Place the ground beef and chopped onion in a large pan over high heat. Break up the meat using a spatula and cook for about 10 minutes until the beef is browned and the onions are softened. Retain some of the fat rendered in the pan for flavor.
- Add Garlic and Spices: Reduce the heat to low. Add the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian spices to the pan. Stir well and cook for about 1 minute to let the flavors meld.
- Add Flour: Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir continuously. Cook for 2 minutes to cook out the raw taste of the flour and to form a roux base for thickening.
- Add Beef Stock: Slowly pour in the beef stock while stirring to avoid lumps. Continue cooking and stirring for 5 to 10 minutes until the sauce thickens to a gravy-like consistency. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little more beef stock to reach desired consistency.
- Combine Ingredients: Stir the cooked egg noodles into the beef gravy mixture. Taste and season with salt and pepper accordingly. Serve immediately while hot for a comforting meal.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease but retain flavor.
- Worcestershire sauce adds depth and umami to the dish.
- Italian spices can be a blend of dried basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary.
- If preferred, substitute beef stock with broth or bouillon for convenience.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on stovetop.
