Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 8 slices of white bread
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 8 slices of turkey
  • 8 slices of Swiss cheese

Egg Mixture

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • 1/4 cup of maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of pepper

Topping

  • 1/4 cup of melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Layer Bread Cubes: Cut the white bread slices into cubes. Place half of these cubes evenly in the greased baking dish as the first layer.
  3. Add Meat and Cheese Layers: Layer the ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese slices evenly over the bread cubes in the baking dish.
  4. Cover with Remaining Bread: Place the remaining bread cubes on top of the meat and cheese layers, creating a sandwich-like structure.
  5. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, salt, and pepper until well combined and smooth.
  6. Pour Egg Mixture: Pour the prepared egg mixture evenly over the layered bread, ham, turkey, and cheese in the baking dish, ensuring it soaks through.
  7. Add Butter Topping: Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top of the casserole to add richness and help browning.
  8. Bake Covered and Then Uncovered: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the casserole is golden brown and set in the center.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider sprinkling some dried thyme or parsley between the layers.
  • Allow the casserole to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving to help it set.
  • This casserole can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated; bake covered, then uncovered as instructed.
  • Use day-old bread for best absorption of the egg mixture without becoming too soggy.
