Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups hot water

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup sugar (for topping)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking pan, making sure it coats the bottom evenly.
  2. Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the whole milk, vanilla extract, and 1 ½ cups of sugar. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, whisking just until combined to create the batter.
  3. Assemble the cobbler: Spoon the batter evenly over the melted butter in the pan, but do not stir the layers together. Next, sprinkle the packed brown sugar evenly over the batter. Carefully pour the hot water over the mixture without stirring, allowing the layers to settle.
  4. Bake: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes. The cobbler is done when the top is golden brown and mostly set.
  5. Add the topping: While the cobbler is still hot from the oven, mix together the ¼ cup sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle evenly over the surface to add an extra sweet and cinnamon flavor.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the cobbler cool slightly in the pan to allow it to set before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Do not stir the layers after pouring the hot water; this helps create the unique cobbler texture.
  • For a richer flavor, use unsalted butter so you can control the salt level better.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture experience.
  • Adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top enhances the dessert’s creaminess.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving.
