Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain flour (300g)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (75g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cups milk (320ml)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled (120g)

Topping

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted (for the churro topping)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (120g)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon spice

Chocolate Ganache

  • 1/2 cup chopped chocolate (90g)
  • 2 tablespoons cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dry and Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla essence, and melted cooled butter until thoroughly combined.
  2. Create the Batter: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients. Stir gently to combine until you get a smooth, lump-free, pourable batter.
  3. Bake the Donuts: Spoon or pipe the batter into your DIY donut tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes until the donuts turn a light golden color. Let them cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely and remove the tin foil base carefully.
  4. Prepare the Topping: While the donuts cool, melt 1/4 cup of butter in a small bowl. In another bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together and set aside.
  5. Make the Chocolate Ganache: Melt the chopped chocolate using a microwave or bain-marie method. Once melted, stir in the cream until the ganache is shiny and thick. This will be used as a luscious topping for the donuts.
  6. Assemble the Donuts: Brush each cooled donut with the melted butter, then roll evenly in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat all sides. Finally, dip the top half of each donut into the chocolate ganache, coating generously. Serve and enjoy these sweet churro-inspired treats!

Notes

  • Ensure the melted butter for the batter is cooled to prevent cooking the eggs when mixing.
  • Use a piping bag for neater donut shapes, or spoon carefully to fill the tin.
  • The chocolate ganache can be adjusted in thickness by varying cream quantity for a thicker or thinner coating.
  • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • For best results, consume the donut bites fresh to enjoy their crisp exterior and soft interior.
